[ARCHIVED] Sonoma County Library Commission Vacancy

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Healdsburg is seeking applications from interested citizens to volunteer for appointment to the Sonoma County Library Commission. The Sonoma County Library is a Joint Powers Agency created through an agreement between the County of Sonoma and the cities of Healdsburg, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, and Sonoma. The appointee will fill a vacant position as the City of Healdsburg’s representative to fulfill a term that will expire August 1, 2018.

The Library Commission provides governance for the Sonoma County Library; establishes the library’s policies and sets the goals and objectives. The County Board of Supervisors only provides oversight of the budget.  This means that the Library Commission’s role in establishing and monitoring the annual budget and overseeing the effective management of the library is very important.—the Library has a budget of over $15 million, operates 11 library facilities and two rural stations, and has a staff of approximately 155 people.

Because of the level of responsibility, the Library Commission should have a strong mix of backgrounds and expertise among its members. The Commission would also benefit from having members with a strong background in areas such as finance, marketing, and business.  Members should, of course, have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the Library.

Library Commissioners are required to attend monthly meetings that can last up to five hours in length and will require at least two hours of preparation. In addition, the Commission holds two daytime budget workshops during the first quarter of the calendar year and may hold special meetings as needed. Applicants must also be residents of the City of Healdsburg library service area with a 95448 Zip Code.

Applications are available at Healdsburg City Hall, 401 Grove Street, Healdsburg, CA 95448, (707) 431-3323 and on the City’s website at www.ci.healdsburg.ca.us under Your Government: Boards and Commissions. All completed applications must be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk by Friday, July 28, 2017 at 5:00 P.M.
